Overview

This is an ADVANCED Course and suitable for paddlers who have already done the Coast to Coast. You MUST be confident paddling your kayak.

Cost includes $210 per person Jet Boat Fee with Alpine Jet.

This is a small group with just 4 paddlers in total.

This 2.5 day course is all about stepping up your skills!

This is the perfect course to tackle if you're looking to take your skills to the next level. You may have just ticked off your first Coast to Coast, be moving into a new kayak or a seasoned paddler looking to get more out of your kayaking and gain precious time. Which ever you are your Grade II Course was just the beginning. Even if you have been paddling for years, this course will help you to improve both your river reading and paddling skills with the aim of understanding how to identify the fastest lines for race day. You will gain in both confidence and ability over the duration of this course. This is a great couple of days on the river with Sam and we cannot recommend it enough.

Trip Details

Day One

To get started with this course we have a few hours of technique and flat water efficiency on the Avon River. Sam will be able to spend time with each paddler individually. You will be sent a personalised video to look back on after the session. This is from 3pm on Friday afternoon.

Day Two

Day Two focuses on improving your boat control, boat placement, forward paddling and river reading skills. We will be teaching you how to set your boat up for paddling bluffs, wave trains and gaining further control of your boat on the river, particularly the gorge. We will be taking you through a series of drills and techniques to help improve these areas. You can expect to see some whiteboard theory and some video analysis too.

    Day Three

Day Three will see you travelling by jet boat up into the Gorge for the day. Today will be focused on running a variety of bluffs and rapids and further improving the techniques and skills we worked on during Day One. We will be looking to build your skills and confidence on some of the tricker features on the river. There will be the opportunity to paddle some of these features multiple times and fine-tune those lines! Sam will demonstrate good race lines and continue to work on your river reading skills.

      Testimonials

This is a great weekend on the river but don't just listen to us....

"I've been paddling multisport boats for a few years & wanted to learn some new skills so I attended "The Next Level" with Sam Manson in October 2020. The two days were hugely worthwhile, getting instruction from someone with the experience and skill level of Sam was just invaluable. The whole TSK team are all very professional and the course had a great balance of positive encouragement, challenges & fun. I really got a huge amount out of this course and highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their kayaking knowledge and skills."

"Each year I keep coming back to do a trip down the river with Topsport Kayaking because I keep having the best paddling experiences ever with their guides. They are very professional, have a tremendous level of skills and experience and all of them provide a fantastic balance of encouragement and challenge the way they teach. I did the "The Next Level" with Sam Manson in October 2020 and I can't recommend Sam and Topsport Kayaking highly enough. I learnt so much. What really helps are their communication and management skills from the day you sign up for a course till you have finished it, one feels very well looked after and cared for. I will sign up again and keep recommending them to my very best friends and others"

I recently completed my Grade II Assessment with Topsport Kayaking. The service provided by the team was excellent. The email communications were clear with excellent detail. The check in app was also very easy to use. On the days, my instructors Sam and Phil were excellent, incredibly knowledgeable with a strong emphasis on safety and completing all skills to a high standard. The Gorge trip was well organized and at all times, I felt I was in safe hands. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending using Topsport for kayaking trips and/or training again the future. Thanks so much for such a positive experience team!

Just a quick note to say thank you. Ryan and Zack were excellent instructors. They managed the certification course as true professionals. It’s not easy to instil confidence, build student skills, and deal with some challenging environmental conditions. I was particularly impressed with Ryan’s enthusiasm for all-things-paddling. His passion and ability shone through.

Just wanna say a big thank you for a great day through the Gorge yesterday. Big ups to Len, Sam and Phil. Our guides Sam and Phil were very professional and had our safety at the forefront of their thinking in quite challenging river conditions. It was great to learn wee titbits from these two very experienced paddlers.

Wanted to send a quick email to say thank you for the Grade II Kayak course I just attended over the weekend. Ryan and Zack did a great job, they were friendly, professional and did a great job keeping our course on track and progressing while the weather gods tried hard to disrupt things. They are clearly capable young men, but their kayaking passion, capability and knowledge were the real difference. I learnt a lot and certainly feel more confident as a novice kayaker – thank you very much.
